JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Brysen Wright committed to Miami on Thursday and announced that he will move into the 2027 recruiting class, giving the Hurricanes a highly rated receiver and bringing his potential arrival a year closer.

The Mandarin High School standout chose Miami over Florida and Texas. News4JAX reported that the announcement took place before a packed school auditorium. The decision resolves one of the most closely followed recruitments in Florida, while the reclassification changes the timetable as well as the destination.

Wright had been ESPN’s top overall prospect in the 2028 class, according to the network’s report on the commitment. Moving to an older recruiting class means his evaluation now belongs in a different group of players. A ranking attached to his previous class should not be presented as his new position without an updated assessment.

The commitment is verbal and nonbinding. It is a major recruiting development, rather than a report that Wright has already enrolled, signed every required document or secured a place in Miami’s starting lineup. Those later steps remain part of the transition from high school prospect to college player.

Production behind the recruiting attention

Wright’s profile extends beyond a ranking. The South Florida Sun Sentinel reported that he had 46 catches for 984 yards and 11 touchdowns during the ongoing 2026 season. The previous year, he finished with 44 receptions, 962 yards and 10 touchdowns. He has also contributed defensively.

Those totals help explain why several major programs pursued him. They show repeated production in addition to the spectacular catches that attract online attention. Recruiting evaluations still involve projection: the level of competition, the player’s responsibilities and the skills that transfer to college all matter alongside a highlight reel.

The Sun Sentinel also noted a connection with Mandarin quarterback Knox Annis, a Miami commitment in the 2028 class. That relationship is part of the recruitment’s context. It does not establish that the two will arrive together, particularly after Wright’s decision to change classes.

For Miami, winning a recruitment against two major regional and national competitors is significant. The practical benefit will depend on how Wright develops within the program, the role available to him and how the rest of the receiver group takes shape. Recruiting victories create possibilities; they do not predetermine the depth chart.

What reclassification changes

The move from 2028 to 2027 compresses the timeline. Wright is now planning toward the next recruiting intake rather than the following one. That gives Miami less time to wait for his arrival, but it also gives the player a shorter runway before the academic, physical and tactical demands of college football.

It is useful to separate the certainty of the announcement from the uncertainty of future performance. His selection of Miami and his stated class change are established developments. Claims that he will immediately transform the offense, win an award or bypass older receivers would be predictions unsupported by Thursday’s decision.

The announcement also strengthens the story of a local prospect choosing to remain in Florida. That is a meaningful recruiting result without needing to speculate about private compensation, promises from coaches or conversations that have not been made public. The factors Wright and his representatives choose to disclose can be reported as they become available.

Miami now has the commitment of one of the country’s most prominent young receivers on an accelerated timetable. The next important developments will involve completing that transition and seeing how his game progresses. Thursday supplied the destination and the new schedule; the college career itself is still ahead.
