Bhayshul Tuten’s availability remains a central question for Jacksonville’s Thursday-night game against Baltimore after the Jaguars running back missed all three practices of the short week with ankle and foot injuries.
Jacksonville listed Tuten as questionable on its final injury report. Coach Liam Coen said the decision could go to game time, according to the team’s official Wednesday update. The designation leaves open the possibility of playing; it does not confirm that he will be active or able to handle his normal workload.
The Jaguars enter the matchup at 5-2, leading the AFC South, against a 4-4 Ravens team at M&T Bank Stadium. A Thursday game provides a compressed recovery window after the previous Sunday’s contest, making the final medical and football assessments especially important.
As of the Thursday-afternoon reporting reviewed for this article, Jacksonville had not announced Tuten as out. USA TODAY’s status report noted that the inactive list, ordinarily released about 90 minutes before kickoff, would provide the definitive answer about whether he is dressed to play.
Why his status matters to Jacksonville
Tuten has produced in both parts of the offense. The Jaguars’ figures through seven games credit him with 492 rushing yards on 110 carries and 181 receiving yards on 15 catches. He has scored three rushing and three receiving touchdowns, giving Jacksonville 673 scrimmage yards from its lead back.
Those contributions make an absence more complicated than replacing a few carries. A back who can contribute as a receiver affects how an offense moves between formations and how defenses respond to personnel. The exact impact of losing him would depend on Jacksonville’s game plan and the roles assigned to the available players.
Chris Rodriguez Jr. is the clearest existing alternative in the rushing production. The team reports 209 yards and three touchdowns on 45 carries for Rodriguez this season. Ameer Abdullah and LeQuint Allen Jr. are also part of the running-back group. Those are established roster options, rather than a confirmed announcement of how Thursday’s touches would be divided.
Coen said Tuten had told him he was feeling better. That is encouraging context, but feeling improved during the week is a different question from being cleared for game action. The team’s continued questionable designation captures that unresolved status.
Active status and workload are separate decisions
Even if Tuten is active, the inactive list alone cannot establish how many snaps he will play. Teams can adjust an injured player’s role based on warm-ups, movement during the game and the demands of the matchup. A report that he is available would therefore answer one question while leaving the workload question open.
For viewers following the situation, the most useful sequence is the official status announcement, the inactive list and then the player’s actual usage. An old injury headline or an unverified social-media claim should not be treated as a substitute for the team’s game-day information.
The uncertainty is not limited to Tuten. Jacksonville also listed defensive end Travon Walker as questionable, and the short week has required adjustments across the roster. Still, Tuten’s involvement stands out because of the balance he has provided between rushing and receiving.
The current answer is specific: Tuten is questionable, with Coen describing him as a likely game-time decision. Jacksonville has a productive alternative in Rodriguez, but had not publicly settled the final backfield allocation in the reporting reviewed. The last pregame announcement will determine availability; the game itself will reveal the role.
