On Tuesday night, southern Mexico was shaken by a 5.2 magnitude earthquake, according to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS). The quake was felt in the country's capital, but there were no immediate reports of damage or injuries. The earthquake struck near the coast of southern Guerrero state, approximately 60 miles (96 km) northwest of Acapulco. Despite the quake's strength, Mexico City Mayor Claudia Sheinbaum announced on Twitter that officials did not activate the city's seismic alarm system, indicating that the magnitude of the earthquake did not warrant such action.
