Andy Murray, the veteran tennis player, has made the decision to step back from the imminent French Open. Despite the Grand Slam tournament being just around the corner, the Scottish athlete has found it challenging to display his optimal game on clay surfaces of late. His focus, instead, is being shifted towards a jam-packed grass-court season leading up to the renowned Wimbledon tournament.

Murray's recent performances have been less than stellar. His journey in the Italian Open ended abruptly in the initial round, and a similar outcome was experienced at an ATP Challenger competition in Bordeaux, where he faced defeat at the hands of Stan Wawrinka.

It is believed that the 36-year-old sportsman is weighing his options in terms of which competitions to partake in. Among those potentially on his radar are the tournaments in Surbiton from June 4-11 and Queen’s from June 19-25. Wimbledon is poised to commence on July 3.

The start of the year saw Murray demonstrate his physical readiness to compete against top-tier players in gruelling matches at the Australian Open. The erstwhile world number one, working towards breathing life back into his career after a significant hip operation in 2018, pulled off two triumphant five-set matches against Matteo Berrettini and Thanasi Kokkinakis. However, his winning streak came to a halt in the third round, facing defeat by Roberto Bautista Agut.

This month started with a high for Murray as he triumphed over Tommy Paul in the final of the ATP Challenger competition in Aix-en-Provence. This win marked his first title victory in close to four years, following early-round eliminations in Monte Carlo and Madrid. Unfortunately, this victory was overshadowed by his subsequent performance letdowns in the Italian Open in Rome and another ATP Challenger competition in Bordeaux.
